Care Instructions
Before You start
Now that you have chosen your new set of beautiful Mother-ease nappies you'll want to get started but there are a few things to do before you do.
Follow the washing and care instructions carefully ensures your Mother-ease nappies and covers will last through 2-3 years of regular use. Wash all nappies and liners before use to help fluff up the fibres to make them fully absorbent.
If you are new to Mother-ease dont' be tempted to wash your full set of nappies in one go. Wash a few through first to try; if you then change your mind about washables altogether or if you want to swap to one of the other Mother-ease nappies you can return them to us. We cannot refund or exchange washed products.
Soaking
At changetime remove as much soiling as possible from the nappy; using paper liners inside the nappies makes this easier and helps to minimise the staining. Place the nappies in a bucket and cover with cold water. You can add a few drops of tea tree oil to start cleansing or a bio-degradable nappy sanitiser such as BioD Nappy Fresh. Change the water everyday to minimise any smells.
Soaking isn't essential but advisable if nappies are heavily soiled or if they are not being washed immediately. If you prefer you can dry store the nappies in a bucket until you are ready to wash.
DO NOT SOAK NAPPY COVERS.
Washing
All Mother-ease nappies, absorbent liners and covers are machine washable. You can wash up to 60 degrees and use a non-biological washing powder. 60 degrees is the recommended temperature to ensure the nappies are fully cleansed; wraps can be washed at lower temperatures with a regular clothes wash.
Do not wash at hotter temperatures as this will damage the fabric and reduce the life of the nappies. Do not use any kind of bleaching agents to try to remove stains as this will also damage the fabrics. Do not use fabric conditioners in your nappy wash as this will put a waxy layer over the fabric and affect the nappy's absorbency and damage the covers.
If your nappies do start to feel a bit rough, a cup of vinegar in the final rise of your wash eliminates detergent build-up and softens the fibres of the nappy fabric
If you have opted for the Mother-ease Multi-fit nappy or are using the Rikki nappy covers remeber to close the velcro tabs prior to washing to prevent snagging.
Drying
If you can its better to line dry as it saves on your electric bill and sunshine is an excellent natural bleaching agent (and its cheaper and greener). The nappies can be tumble dried on a medium-low setting. There is no need to tumble dry the nappy covers as these are practically dry when they come out of the washing machine.
If you are drying nappies and wraps indoors use an airer; don't be tempted to put them on the radiator as this may damage the fabrics.
